CREW MEMBERS All members of the Greater Weatherly Ambulance Association Inc. are required to follow Federal, State, Local, Department of Health, and the Associations' Laws, rules and regulations. This means they must have certain courses that must be completed and if need be recertified whenever necessary. Some of these courses are as follows:
These are just a few of the courses required by law for our members to run on a BLS truck. The Hazardous Materials course, any of the above, have to be recertified every year for a member to run. First Aid, First Responder must recert every 2 years, unless 16 CON-ED (Continuing Education) Credits are received by taking other courses. Emergency Medical Technician must recert every 3 years, unless the person receives 24 CON-ED Credits. The certified person may either take courses that offer Con-Ed Credits or they can challenge the test at the end of their certification term. EMS came up with the Con-Ed so it is easier to recert without taking a test. They also figured it would be especially helpful because the courses that must be taken to receive these credits also give more knowledge to the responder and helps with their training. CPR has to be recertified every 2 years as per the American Heart Association. Without current or up to date CPR certification responders can not run on calls. EVOC is a drivers course. Anyone aged 18 or older is required to take this course. So everyone is qualified to drive in case the emergency arose when you have to drive the truck to an emergency. In EVOC you have to drive through strategically placed cones and do all kinds of maneuvers in a certain time frame. Vehicle Rescue is a class that teaches EMS personnel the basic of Vehicle Rescue. They teach how to do extrication and remove a trapped patient carefully without causing more damage. It also teaches that in such the case where the Ambulance is on scene before the Fire Department they can use simple tools such as a screwdriver, hammer, and hack saw to gain access to the patient and possibly remove them before any further injuries are caused. AED is a form of life saving equipment that is being used more and more by people other than Paramedics, Nurses, and Doctors on the scene of a person in Cardiac Arrest. This helps us so that if the Paramedic Unit has a delayed time of arrival we can administer shocks to the patient to help get their heart started again. The AED course requires you rectify every 6 months. Now, below you will find our crew members. They are broken into the different classifications as per their First Aid Training. PARAMEDICS
